Summary of the ICOMAA-NA 2014 AGM

Aug 18, 2014

The 2014 ICOMAA-NA AGM was held on July 18, 2014 at Anaheim, CA, USA during the ANPA convention.

About 36 people registered as attendees of the meeting and many more that did not register their presence.

Prof Temitope Alonge the Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital addressed the meeting as the Guest of honor and showed evidence of great strides in terms of technological advancement in UCH towards patient care and residency training. In his speech he stated that many interventional cardiology and cardiothoracic procedures have been performed in the hospital through collaboration with a US based team.

The outgoing President of ICOMAA-NA gave his farewell speech in which he  reinstated the need for more commitment from alumni (download speech here).

A financial report of the Association was presented by Dr. Fajana.

Awards were given to Prof. Johnson for his unwavering support of the association, Dr. Akinboboye, Past President, Dr. Fajana, outgoing Publicity Secretary and Dr. Dawodu (who was unaware of a decision for such an award until announcement). Other awards will be sent to recipients or formally given out at the next AGM.

New executive members were elected to take over from November 2014 till October 2016, with Dr. Austin Osemeka as Vice-President/President-elect, Dr. Oladimeji Sorunke as Secretary-General and Dr. Adebambo Ojuri as Publicity-Secretary. The other members of the 2014-2016 team effective November 2014 will be Dr. Omowunmi Osinubi as President (Currently Vice-President/President-elect), Dr. Segun Dawodu as Immediate-Past President (currently outgoing President), Dr. Adeola Jaiyeola who continues as Treasurer (serving since inception of the organization and our thanks to her commitment) and Reverend. Olabisi Chukwudile who continues as the Assistant Secretary-General.

Based on an attendance of less than 200 at the ANPA AGM, ICOMAA-NA once again maintained a significant contribution to the attendance at ANPA meeting this year compared with any other alumni associations.

My thanks again to all members who have continued to support the organization and hopefully will not relent in their efforts in supporting the organization now and for the future.

I have no doubt in my mind that the next Exco will be stronger than the current one and take us to the next higher level under a very hard-working Dr. Osinubi. For those who missed this year's AGM, she was the compere and did this excellently with many rib-cracking jokes.  I will remain as a member of the Exco till 2016 as the immediate past-president and continue to contribute my quota as we move ICOMAA-NA to a greater height.

Please find attached my PowerPoint presentation and a pdf copy of the brochure of the meeting.

I will encourage more people to place an advert in next year's AGM brochure.

A total pledge of $5,400 was made

Thanks and God's blessings.
